To create awareness about increasing trend of rectal cancers in Kashmir, the Surgery Department, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar on Wednesday held an education program which was attended by specialists from different health institutes of Kashmir.

“The rectal cancers have taken an alarming proportion in Kashmir particularly among young people,” noted surgeon Dr Iqbal Saleem said.

Dr Saleem said that the continuing surgical education program on current management of rectal cancers was held to bring together specialists from various departments which deal with the deadly disease. The speakers deliberated on the issue of providing best possible treatment modalities for the patients.

Noted urologist, Dr. Mufti Mehmood advocated that there should be a policy of screening of patients at primary level to arrest the disease at initial stage. Dr. Kulwant Singh and Dr Amat Samai, pediatric surgeon also spoke on the topic.
